BABYMONSTER’s ‘BATTER UP’ MV Surpasses 200 Million Views, Sets Record for Fastest K-Pop Debut Song to Achieve This Milestone
YG’s rookie girl group BABYMONSTER has set another record in K-Pop with their debut song ‘BATTER UP.’
According to YG Entertainment on the 20th, the music video for BABYMONSTER’s ‘BATTER UP’ surpassed 200 million views on YouTube at around 11:23 pm the previous day. This achievement comes just about 53 days after its release at midnight on the 27th of last month, making it the fastest among all K-Pop group debut song music videos to reach the same view count.
‘BATTER UP’ sparked a hot response from the beginning. Just one day after its release, it broke the record for the highest number of views in 24 hours for a K-Pop debut song, amassing 22.59 million views. It then continued to break records for the fastest K-Pop group debut song to reach 50 million views (4 days) and 100 million views (18 days). Following this, it topped the global YouTube daily music video chart for five consecutive days and dominated the weekly chart.
The song’s performance on music charts is also notable. ‘BATTER UP’ swept the number one spot on iTunes cumulative song charts in 21 countries upon its release and climbed to the top of the Worldwide chart. Within just eight days of its release, it secured positions in the Billboard Global 200 (101st place) and Billboard Global (49th place) charts. On Spotify, the world’s largest music streaming platform, it became the fastest K-Pop girl group debut song to surpass 10 million streams.
Riding this momentum, BABYMONSTER is set to release their second new song ‘Stuck In The Middle’ on February 1st. YG commented, “The song allows full focus on their exceptional vocal skills and unique timbre, introducing a new genre,” and added, “It offers a contrasting charm to their original hip-hop mood debut song ‘BATTER UP’,” raising expectations.
