BABYMONSTER Surpasses 400,000 Sales With Debut Mini Album, Sets Record for Highest First-Week Sales by a K-pop Girl Group Debut Album

YG’s rookie girl group BABYMONSTER has achieved a new record in initial sales with their first album, marking a successful first step in the global music market.

According to Hanteo Chart on April 8, BABYMONSTER’s first mini album ‘BABYMONS7ER’ sold a total of 401,287 copies from its release until April 7. This sets a new record for the highest first-week sales by a debut album from a K-pop girl group.

‘BABYMONS7ER’ had already shown signs of significant popularity with over 460,000 pre-orders. The formation of a core fandom through diverse content and high expectations for their music, which inherits the YG DNA, are believed to be reflected in these figures.

Considering BABYMONSTER has just begun their full-scale activities, the final sales volume is expected to increase even further. Additionally, YG mentioned that some overseas shipments have not yet been counted.

BABYMONSTER is also making its presence felt on various global charts. The mini album reached the top ranks of the iTunes Worldwide Album Chart, and the title track ‘SHEESH’ achieved the highest entry for a K-pop girl group this year on the Spotify Daily Top Songs Global Chart, landing at 69th place.

Fittingly for the next ‘YouTube Queens,’ the music video for ‘SHEESH’ has shown immense popularity. It quickly became the ‘most viewed video within 24 hours’ of its release, eventually topping the YouTube Global Weekly Chart. The views are rapidly climbing, having already surpassed 76.95 million views and racing towards the 100 million view milestone.

With this album, BABYMONSTER is set to connect with domestic fans through a variety of content, broadcast appearances, and fan signing events. They will also expand their global presence with an Asia fan meeting tour in five cities including Tokyo, Jakarta, Singapore, Taipei, and Bangkok, as well as performing at Japan’s largest music festival ‘Summer Sonic 2024’.
