YG Entertainment’s rookie group BABYMONSTER has been breaking its own records daily.
On April 23, according to YG Entertainment, BABYMONSTER’s debut song “SHEESH” reached 9th on the Melon HOT 100 as of 9 a.m. Despite the high entry barriers to Melon’s TOP 100, the group climbed to 14th, an exceptional achievement for a rookie group.
This success comes as BABYMONSTER has gained a reputation for their outstanding live performances. Though it’s been over three weeks since the song’s release on April 1, word of mouth about their live skills has gradually pushed the song up the charts. BABYMONSTER has wowed fans with unique live performances on music shows, YouTube content, and variety shows. This growing popularity has translated into increased chart momentum.
Outside of Melon, “SHEESH” is also receiving significant love on other domestic music charts. It topped the real-time chart on Naver Vibe and placed high on Bugs, nearly reaching the top spot. In Genie and FLO, it continues to break its own records with rapid upward trends.
The group’s global chart performance is also noteworthy. The world’s largest music streaming platform, Spotify, has seen them on the charts for 21 consecutive days. On the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. and Billboard Global 200 charts, BABYMONSTER reached their highest-ever rankings at 23rd and 49th, respectively.
BABYMONSTER released their first mini album, BABYMONS7ER, on April 1, making a strong impression as the next leading K-pop girl group. The album sold 401,287 copies in just one week, setting a new record for the first-week sales of a debut K-pop girl group album. The music video for the title track “SHEESH” broke the record for reaching 100 million views on YouTube in just 10 days, the fastest for a debut song by a K-pop girl group.
