BABYMONSTER Conquers Japanese National Broadcast Music Shows, Kicking Off Activities in Japan
The new girl group from YG Entertainment, BABYMONSTER, has started to make significant inroads into Japan by sweeping major terrestrial music programs, signaling a strong surge in local popularity.
YG Entertainment announced on May 13 that BABYMONSTER will perform the title track ‘SHEESH’ from their 1st mini album [BABYMONS7ER] live on TV Asahi’s ‘Music Station’ on May 17. Despite not having officially debuted in Japan yet, the group has secured their first performance on ‘Music Station,’ a popular music program boasting a history of 38 years.
It is particularly noteworthy that BABYMONSTER will perform ‘SHEESH’ in its original Korean version. Given the warm reception from local music fans, YG decided to showcase the song in its original form.
Furthermore, BABYMONSTER is set to appear on other major music shows, including NHK’s ‘Venue101’ on May 18 and TBS’s ‘CDTV Live! Live!’ on May 20, continuing their aggressive promotion in the local market.
In addition to music broadcasts, BABYMONSTER is rapidly gaining momentum in Japan. They hosted ‘[BABYMONSTER PRESENTS: SEE YOU THERE] IN JAPAN’ at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena on May 11-12, making a swift entry into arena-sized venues just about 40 days after their official debut.
All 20,000 seats for the two-day event sold out quickly, and due to fan demand, additional seats were made available. A pop-up store currently running at the Shibuya Miyashita Park shopping mall is also enjoying success. From the first day, hundreds formed a line waiting for the store to open, and products sold out so quickly that plans are underway to open more locations.
BABYMONSTER will also start their debut Asia fan meeting tour on June 8 in Jakarta, Indonesia, followed by dates in Singapore on June 15, Taipei on June 23, and Bangkok, Thailand, on June 29 and 30, totaling seven performances across five cities.
In August, they are slated to join ‘Summer Sonic 2024,’ Japan’s largest music festival, where they will connect with global music fans.
