BABYMONSTER Set to Release Their First Full Album on November 1st with G-Dragon’s Participation
YG Entertainment’s rookie girl group BABYMONSTER is making a comeback with a full-length album. On October 8, YG Entertainment announced on their official blog, “YG Announcement: BABYMONSTER 1ST FULL ALBUM ROLLOUT”, revealing that BABYMONSTER’s first full album titled ‘DRIP’ will be released on November 1.
In a video released today, YG EXECUTIVE PRODUCER YANG HYUN SUK personally introduced the nine tracks included in BABYMONSTER’s full album ‘DRIP’.
Under the comprehensive direction of YANG HYUN SUK from the start, BABYMONSTER officially debuted as a complete group of seven members on April 1 this year. Despite being rookies, the global impact they’ve made is astonishing, as seen in their impressive metrics.
BABYMONSTER achieved a new record for the highest first-week sales for a debut K-pop girl group album with their mini album ‘BABYMONS7ER’, selling a total of 401,287 copies. The music video for the title track ‘SHEESH’ has recently surpassed 300 million views on YouTube, and their dance practice video has also exceeded 150 million views, marking their prominence in the global market. The group is nearing 7 million subscribers, a metric indicative of a strong fandom.
Interest in BABYMONSTER’s first full album is heating up. YANG expressed his fondness for the album, stating, “I really like this album,” and showed unique confidence in the tracks it contains. He also revealed an unusual promotional strategy starting this week, where two songs from the album, excluding the title track, will be pre-released for about a minute each week, adding an exciting twist to YG’s approach.
The album ‘DRIP’ consists of nine tracks, with the first track ‘CLIK CLAK’ described by YANG as “a hip-hop song with originality like never seen before at YG,” with all seven members participating as rappers. This marks a new musical venture for BABYMONSTER.
The second track, the album’s namesake ‘DRIP’, is noted by YANG as “a song that makes people of all ages want to dance. Look forward to the passionate performance BABYMONSTER will show,” and notably, “G-DRAGON has contributed to the composition, making it a great piece of music,” elevating expectations.
Further tracks include ‘Love, Maybe’ with beautiful vocals over guitar, ‘Really Like You’ with a 90s hip-hop vibe, ‘BILLIONAIRE’ with a heavy 808 bass and R&B sound that revives the Y2K vibe, ‘Love In My Heart’ a cheerful tune enjoyable for all ages, ‘Woke Up In Tokyo (RUKA & ASA)’ featuring hip-hop vibes from the Japanese members, the pre-released ‘FOREVER’, and the much-loved encore song at fan meetings ‘BATTER UP (Remix) Bonus Track’.
This full album is a mega project under YG’s full support. While it’s common to film one or two music videos for a regular album, YANG HYUN SUK stated, “This BABYMONSTER album will have at least three music videos filmed,” showing exceptional love and confidence in BABYMONSTER’s first album.
YANG also spoke about BABYMONSTER’s new choreography, “Having been in charge of choreography for YG artists like BIGBANG, 2NE1, and BLACKPINK for 28 years, it’s not hard for me. However, as BABYMONSTER plans a world tour, controlling choreography for all songs in the album simultaneously can be challenging, but I will ensure good results,” conveying his commitment to expanding BABYMONSTER’s global reach.
Moreover, YANG shared, “I hope fans will feel excited every week as they listen to BABYMONSTER’s new songs leading up to the full album release on November 1. We will also pre-release the music video for ‘CLIK CLAK’ 2-3 days before the album release and keep the title track under wraps until the release date for a strong impact. We ask for lots of support from global fans.”
