Behind the Release of BABYMONSTER’s “DRIP” … A Look Inside YG’s “Song Camp” Documentary
YG Entertainment has unveiled a documentary that delves into its in-house producing system. Released on the official YG Entertainment YouTube channel, the video titled “BABYMONSTER Song Camp Documentary” spans approximately 51 minutes. It offers an in-depth look into the long-standing “Song Camp” system utilized by YG Entertainment.
“Song Camp” is a music production method that involves inviting prominent international composers to Korea to collaborate with YG’s robust internal producers under the vision of “YG DNA”. The aim is to create superior musical outcomes through collaborative sharing of ideas.
Global writers who have worked with YG highlighted that one of the strengths of the “Song Camp” is the opportunity to work not just with producers but directly with the artists. This direct interaction at the recording sites has allowed them to deliver tailored vocal directions and achieve meaningful synergies.
The environment fosters systematic work and enables close communication with international experts, each bringing their own styles and techniques. Together, they converge on a singular goal of crafting ‘the best music’, naturally drawing new inspirations and challenges during the process.
The digital single “FOREVER” by the rookie girl group BABYMONSTER also emerged from such a free communication environment. The track began when BLVSH spontaneously hummed a melody that caught the attention of YG’s leading producer team, CHOICE, who then worked together to maximize BABYMONSTER’s distinctive energy.
Their journey to create a high-quality musical world is ongoing. CHOICE37 spoke about BABYMONSTER’s debut studio album, “DRIP”, saying, “During this song camp, we worked hard to create the best songs for BABYMONSTER, and we hope everyone enjoys the tracks included in the album.”
Meanwhile, BABYMONSTER has been gaining significant global traction since the release of their first studio album “DRIP” on November 1st. The album made an impressive debut on the US Billboard main chart, the ‘Billboard 200’, entering at position 149, while its title track “DRIP” achieved its highest-ever ranking at 16th on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S and 30th on the Billboard Global 200.
