BABYMONSTER Pays Tribute to Seo Taiji and Boys’ “I Know” MV. Receives Praise for Nostalgic Homage

BABYMONSTER has made a comeback with their new track “HOT SAUCE,” and the music video’s homage to the debut MV set of Seo Taiji and Boys’ legendary 1992 track “I Know (난 알아요)” is drawing acclaim.

On July 1 at 6 PM, BABYMONSTER dropped the pre-release single “HOT SAUCE” from their 1st MINI ALBUM. The song’s music video, filled with the group’s signature bright and refreshing energy and vibrant summer vibes, is quickly gaining popularity.

What’s especially catching attention is the music video’s nod to the iconic set from “I Know,” the debut track from Seo Taiji and Boys, where YG EXECUTIVE PRODUCER YANG HYUN SUK made his mark. The set prominently features the “HOT SAUCE” logo designed in the same font style as the cover of Seo Taiji and Boys’ first album.

Lyrics scattered across the set add a playful touch and amplify BABYMONSTER’s spirited energy. The reimagining has begun to spark word-of-mouth among older music fans, who are praising the group, mostly composed of teenagers, for seamlessly embracing a retro hip-hop vibe from the ’80s, calling the visual concept refreshing.

The bold retro colors, oversized fits, and eye-catching lettering also highlight BABYMONSTER’s versatility in pulling off diverse concepts. Released right at the start of July, the summer anthem has left a strong impression with its energetic and cooling charm.

Meanwhile, BABYMONSTER is set for a packed schedule, with a second pre-release track coming in September and the full MINI ALBUM release slated for October. Starting in August, they’ll take the stage at Japan’s largest music festival, “Summer Sonic,” followed by their second North American tour with stops in Toronto, Rosemont, Atlanta, Fort Worth, Oakland, and Seattle, expanding their global reach even further.
