New Song in Five Years, First Tour in Nine Years… The Clock Starts Ticking Again for the “Kings of K-pop,” BIGBANG

After igniting the stage at the world-renowned music festival Coachella this past April and signaling the start of a monumental comeback, BIGBANG is now officially launching its 20th anniversary project. With the group’s 20th debut anniversary, the release of a new song, and a large-scale world tour for the first time in nine years all on the horizon, music fans are paying close attention.

On August 19, BIGBANG will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut with a free fan event at Yeouido Hangang Park in Seoul, spending a meaningful time with fans who have stood by them for years. From August 21 to 23, they will then kick off “BIGBANG 2026-2027 WORLD TOUR <XX : COSMOS>” at Goyang Stadium. With every seat for all shows sold out, the tour will span a total of 33 performances across 19 cities and travel around the world through February next year. Regarding the concert title “XX : COSMOS,” YG ENTERTAINMENT explained, “‘XX’ represents BIGBANG’s 20 years since debut, while ‘COSMOS’ goes beyond the meaning of physical space to symbolize the cosmic connection linking the past, present, and future that BIGBANG and their fans have created together.”

In particular, BIGBANG is scheduled to perform at stadiums around the world, including Tokyo Dome, Kyocera Dome, and PayPay Dome in Japan, MetLife Stadium in the United States, Stade de France in France, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the United Kingdom, as well as Kaohsiung National Stadium and Taipei Dome in Taiwan. As this marks their first world tour as a group in nine years, the scale has also grown significantly.

BIGBANG will also release their new digital single “BiiiG” at 6 p.m. on August 19. The release marks the group’s first new music in approximately four years and four months since the digital single “Still Life,” released in April 2022. The title “BiiiG,” a variation on the word “BIG,” symbolizes BIGBANG’s identity and the massive scale of their music. YG ENTERTAINMENT described it as “a song that most vividly captures BIGBANG as they are today, on the 20th anniversary of their debut,” raising expectations for an even broader musical spectrum. Following “Still Life,” which topped major music charts in 2022 without any separate broadcast promotions, the new release is expected to fill the group’s long hiatus and once again demonstrate BIGBANG’s tremendous impact.

Now that the K-pop market has entered the era of fifth-generation idols, the comeback of BIGBANG, one of the defining acts of the second generation, is distinctive in itself. While many recent K-pop boy groups rely on highly synchronized choreography and meticulously constructed universes as their main strengths, BIGBANG, now reorganized as the trio of G-DRAGON, TAEYANG, and DAESUNG, brings self-producing capabilities, the powerful individuality of each artist, commanding live performances, and an effortless stage aura. Having helped lay the foundation for today’s K-pop, BIGBANG’s music creates a powerful sense of mainstream connection that spans generations, from teenagers to listeners in their 40s.

The path BIGBANG has carved out over the years is regarded as K-pop history in itself. With one mega-hit after another, including “LIE,” “LAST FAREWELL,” “HARU HARU,” “FANTASTIC BABY,” “BANG BANG BANG,” and “LAST DANCE,” the group changed the paradigm of K-pop. They also directly established the concept of the “K-pop world tour” in concert history. Through their ALIVE GALAXY tour, they attracted 1.5 million attendees, setting a record for the largest audience for a single tour by a K-pop artist, while also becoming the first overseas artist to complete a six-dome tour in Japan and achieving the unprecedented feat of holding dome tours for five consecutive years. BIGBANG’s latest comeback is expected to serve as a catalyst that brings the long-forgotten essence of K-pop back to the forefront.

The overwhelming presence they demonstrated on the Coachella stage proved that the name BIGBANG remains an irreplaceable brand. Now that BIGBANG’s clock has begun ticking powerfully once again, anticipation is growing worldwide for the new records they will write in the music industry and for the next chapter in BIGBANG’s story.
